Black & Blue Burger

When you hear the term “black and blue”, it conjures an image far far away from food, right? Well, today might sort of change that. My husband made his Black & Blue Burger and as usual it was great. “Black” comes from the blackened beef patties, while “blue” comes from blue cheese.

INGREDIENTS:
2 pounds of ground beef
sprinkle of dried oregano
sprinkle of dried basil
sprinkle of salt
1 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp of Zatarains’ Blackened seasoning
Crumbled blue cheese
tomato slices
lettuce
burger buns
1/4 cup of melted butter

Combine the ground beef, dried oregano, dried basil, Worcestershire sauce and salt together. Mix ‘em all up and shape the patties. 4 thick burger patties.

Cook the patties on an electric griddle or grill. Cook one side. Halfway through cooking, sprinkle half of the Zatarains blackened seasoning on top of the patties. Continue to cook according to how you like your patties. Then flip to cook the other side. Sprinkle the remaining blackened seasoning on top of the patties. Once the other side cooks, flip the patties one more time but turn down the heat of the griddle. Add the crumbled blue cheese on top. Let the cheese sit for 30 seconds or so.

Brush melted butter on the inside of the buns. Slightly toast them in the griddle.

Plate your burger : Bottom bun, blackened patty, blue cheese on top, tomato slice, lettuce, then the top bun.

The combination of the peppery patties and the blue cheese flavor will dance in your mouth deliciously.

Hi Mary Jo, yeah, would’ve loved to grill but it was drizzly so griddle it was :)

This is my very favorite burger! I usually cook the burgers on the grill, rather than a griddle, and the bleu cheese melts in a flash.
