Do you feel that your collection of small appliances and gadgets is complete? Well, do you? I’ll bet you don’t have one of these, at only around $18:
Now, how can you claim that your collection is complete? If you’re feeling really spendy, here’s the luxury version at about $78. I don’t know why it’s so much more.

I wondered about hot dog lengths and this appliance. Lets me out for sure…Hebrew National is my brand :-) For the same reason, we don’t buy the “New England” style rolls…they only just started making them long enough (or at least my grocery store only just started getting them in the longer lengths). I’d never seen a roll like that until we moved to MA. First time I bought a pack, we failed to notice the slit in the top, and we sliced the sides thinking that they were uncut. Of course one of the pieces fell completely off!
We’re just a “grilled only” family. If we can’t brush the snow off the barbecue, then hot dogs aren’t going to be on the menu.
When this was only available through hammacher schlemmer, I bought one. So did several others in the same situation as I was – we had kids who loved hot dogs.
We all since have ebay’d them. Only does “osar meyer” type dogs. The better type of dogs like Usingers, etc., that are longer are not cooked. My wife loved the toasted buns, but the kid disliked the fact that the sausages that he liked were too long to totally cook. Awesome for non hot dog afficianadoes, but as the kids grow up, and you deal with casings, sizes, etc., get a small hot dog roller and steam the buns in the microwave. While I am in a cultural backwater, I am in the best place for hot dogs, brats, cheese, etc.
While I was dealing with the cub scouts, we did a “taste test” of a lot of the local and national brands. Local folks always won, but what was important was the fact that the kids loved the “New England Rolls” as opposed to the nationally available hot dog type rolls. Major pain, but the wonderful folks at Chicago Metallic sent me molds for the “New England” rolls that I do whenever a fund raiser is required. As a national brand, Nathann’s natural casings won locally. However, Usinger’s, Klemets and Meisenger’s (SP?) from Sheboygan were the favorites.
