A pregnant friend of mine sent me this article from a baby-oriented website she reads: Mom’s meat-heavy diet affects kids’ stress response.
In general, the study found, cortisol levels climbed in tandem with the amount of meat study participants’ mothers had eaten late in pregnancy. Cortisol is released by the adrenal glands in response to stress.
The article emphasizes the importance of fresh fruits and veggies in a pregnant woman’s diet. And don’t even think about going on Atkins.

I love red meat but for some reason didn’t crave it during pregnancy. I guess that was a good thing, huh?

Hi,
I just came across your blog. Seems like I will have to spend sometime digging it, quite nice!
Interesting find. Thanks for sharing it.
That’s shocking and frightening. I’m sure my mother ate a lot of red meat over the course of her pregnancy. I’ll have to eat even more dark chocolate to compensate!
