Product Review: Fiber One Chewy Bars

Fiber One Chewy Bars Oats and ChocolateSeveral weeks ago (months actually, as the last quarter has been a frenzied chaos for me), I was sent a box of Fiber One Chew Bars (Oats and Chocolate), for review. I placed them in our pantry with every intention of trying them out the first minute I can sit down and study the accompanying reading materials they sent. Now I’m kicking myself for not having tried them earlier!

If you want the short version, here it is: Fiber One Oat and Chocolate Chewy Bars are fabulous!

They taste great, not too sweet, with just the right amount of chocolatey goodness for the flavor, but not too much to make you feel like you’re eating a chocolate bar instead. I find the texture just right: chewy, but not rough, not dry, doesn’t crumble, and doesn’t take ages til you can swallow without injuring your throat.

On the nutritional viewpoint, one bar is supposedly enough to provide 35% of your daily dietary requirement for fiber. What’s fiber good for? Aside from keeping you “regular”, fiber intake has also been documented to help prevent cancer, lower blood cholesterol, and improve blood sugar control. I am surprised that none of these health claims appear on the package label of Fiber One.

Aside from fiber, they are also a good source of calcium (10% of daily value), has no trans-fats and clocks up only 140 calories per bar. They’re perfect as snacks for those always on the go.

I cant eat these, I was doubling over in stomach pain and gas for 24 hours. I should have known, it was like this with Kashi cereal but this pain is way worse and way longer. Not fun:(

These bars give me extreme gas afterwards and stays for hours. I had one during the day, and before I went out to dinner started getting some gas. When I was seated at the restaurant I had to keep it in, and after an hour I tried to get up to use the restroom and was in extreme pain I had to sit back down. The gas buildup from not letting it out was painful. When I left the restaurant I had to let it out to release the pressure it was building inside me.

PS – there is no need to give them up because of gas. Try eating a half bar each day for a week and gradually work up to one and then two. Your body will adjust. Or, take a gas reducer like Ovol 180 or the equivalent Equate brand at half the price. They taste so good.

You must be talking about the bars in the USA. Here, in Canada, the bars provide 20% of our daily fiber requirement. Regardless, they are incredibly good. The caramel and the peanut butter ones are great – peanut butter is my number one choice.

oH my lord, this is the funniest post I have seen in a long time. I love the fiber one bars. I have not experienced the super gas that has been documented here, at best they make me regular. But if I had i would discontinue usage IMMEDIATELY. They taste great, its like eating a candy bar.

Fiber One bars taste fantastic, but I had to stop eating them because of the aftermath! The gas and farting is just too much! If you want to enjoy them, just be sure you’ll be alone afterward or with someone who REALLY loves you! lol

The oils in the bars are good for as long they do not come from animals. People associate oils with being bad, that is not true. Lard is bad, excess peanut oil, but Canola oil and olive oil are good for you and should be eaten regularly.

First off Fiber One bars are DELICIOUS!!!
But I didn’t know the side effects, LOL
    My experience… True Story:
I’m big on eating 2 packs of Quaker instant oatmeal every morning plus one Fiber One bar, then I eat another Fiber One bar about four hours later. Well Yesterday I did that but I packed to extra Fiber One bars in my lunch extra, totaling four bars. I saved to for the road after work to eat from San Diego to Orange County. When I got to my destination I was cutting gas every 5 minutes, lol. About 3 hours layer I had to GO!!! An explosion of gas, moderate diarreah but alot of gas. I got up still passing gas, I got to thinking my girlfriend played a prank on me with Ex-Lax, lol. I went to bed and woke in the morning with stomach cramps like I haven’t ate dinner. Thanks Fiber One!!! All in all a bowl of oatmeal and 4 Fiber One bars will take effect. I will continue to eat them, one a day now, LOL.

Conlusion: this explains all the gas I been having before this incident.

I think the reason they don’t make any of the health claims about lowering cholesterol etc. is because of the type of fiber in them. Check out this article for more info. http://blog.nola.com/chrisbynum/2008/10/not_all_highfiber_foods_are_as.html

I bought the chocolate and oatmeal ones, and liked the taste of them, but about a half hour later, I had so much gas all day long. So I won’t be buying them again, that’s for sure.

I eat 2 of these a day for the last year, i feel great and about the ingredients im sure people are putting worst things in there body than a fiber one bar lol…its an excelent source of fiber which everybody needs more of and if you dont have time its perfect but thats just my opinion and hfcs doesnt spike your insulin and 9 grams of fiber slows down the absorption im sure the makers of fiberone knows what they are doing

If you really want to eat healthy avoid these bars!
Look at the ingredients, full of high fructose corn syrup and all kinds of additives and preservatives.
If you want healthy and yummy go to LAra Bars, Prana bars Pure bars and Raw revolution Bars

Nancy, The bars have peanut flour in them? A lot of people are allergic to peanuts.

This bar was good but unforturnatly I do not know what was in it that gave me a terrible allergic reaction. I guess I won’t be buying these again.

I agree these are the best tasting granola bars out there (despite the gassy side-effects), but Geez people! I hope you didn’t expect General Mills (the maker of Fiber One Bars) to do you a favor and cut out the HFCS and hydrogenated fats! They use this stuff to cheapen the product so you can get it at a comparable cost as to other granola bars. If you want a clean label then be ready to fork out the money and expect to find it at Whole Foods.

i tried the caramel ….there the BOMB there great..perfect for breakfrast or a snack at work.beats chips.

I loved them too! Until I noticed they have some transfat and high fructose corn syrup in them. :-( I’m not buying anything with any transfat anymore so now they are off my shopping list permanently. So sad because they taste so good!
