Yakult is probably the most widely sold probiotic product in the world. It’s been around for more than 70 years now and even as a child I already knew those little bottles delivered to us by so-called Yakult ladies. Today, my son gets it daily from the kindergarten and it is a constant in our grocery list.
What makes Yakult healthy? Yakult UK summarizes the health benefits of Yakult:
The good gut flora helps to neutralise some of the toxic by-products of digestion, reduce harmful substances (such as toxins and carcinogens), and discourage harmful bacteria and yeasts from setting up home within the gut. In addition, the products of its growth help the cells of the gut grow and stay healthy.
Basically, what Yakult does it to introduce good microorganisms in your gut (Lactobacillus casei Shirota strain) which can displace the harmful ones. If you’re keeping tabs on your sugar consumption, there’s also the Light version, which only contains 3.6g sugar (instead of 11.2g).

It is ok if you cannot find it as if you do have yogurt the principle is the same but not as good but i do put or add pineapple juice to my yogurt about 2 table spoons to about 150 mls as this does give the sherota strain but not as good but it does come close. Or Mix lite low fat milk with a juiced mango !! yum !!! i have one every morning for breakfast instead of my usual toast and egg ann lost 5 kilo’s in 3 weeks. providing you have a healthy lunch and dinner but write back and i will tell you them details. Best of luck.

Where can I buy Yakult in South Delhi?
I am not a huge fan of the product unless you want it for probiotics alone. I see the ingredient list is’nt too appealing – water + sugar + skim milk powder + glucose + Natural & Artificial Flavors + LACTOBACILLUS CASEI SHIROTA
I would do this instead which is HEALTHIER AND FRESHER – Yogurt (you can thin it with water) + proibotic capsule dumped in it. Does the job just fine and for fraction of cost.
after purcahsing several packs of Yakult I noticed the due “use by” date had expired – can they still be consumed and until when?
The Store Locator does not work. I have Yakult at our local H-E-B stores, but it did not locate that.
