Baldiness and the Meaning of Life

b5media Science & Health Channel Topic du Jour

Would that which we call Baldiness by any other name smell as sweet?

This guy, Will, I knew back in the day said something like that once, and if you’ve been following along here for a while, you’ll probably agree that it’s a suitable way to begin a post here.

Beginnings,” you say?

6 March, 2006: Welcome to Baldiness! Fast forward approximately nine months and 300 posts and here we are.

Where are we?

Boy, you’re full of questions this morning. We’re here, Baldiness.com, committed to exploring “The Truthiness about Baldness.” If it seems like Baldiness doesn’t quite fit the mold of your standard science blog, I’ll agree and take it as a compliment. Don’t remind Hsien, but I started out in the Lifestyles Channel.

So why are you a part of the Science & Health Channel?

Because Baldness is a science & health issue: Stress, hormones, genetics, pharmaceuticals, and all that. And hair loss seems to be a side effect of everything! So, I write about these things… really; search the archives. I’m sure there are serious scientific posts in there somewhere.

But more than just the hard science, there are the social science aspects of baldness: culture, social and gender norms, self-esteem, sexual attraction, etc. Don’t tell me these topics aren’t interesting! So, I write about these things, too. If nothing else it’s given me the excuse to stalk the lovely (and bald) Ms. Porter.

You ramble, and I don’t have enough caffeine in my system to follow all this. Bottom line it for me.

You got it. Bottom line: Perspective. Whether by design, disease or desire, baldness has this way of affecting your identity in significant ways. At Baldiness, I not only want to inform and entertain you; I want to help you keep your hair – or lack thereof – in perspective.

Reader Response

Here’s a chance for you to tell me what you think of Baldiness. The comments are always open, but I’m specifically asking today.

  • What do you like?
  • What do you dislike?
  • What is missing?

Leave me a comment. Drop me an email. Send me a carrier bald eagle (Official Messenger Bird of Baldiness.com) Just remember: Those who don’t vote, don’t have a right to complain.

I like your cheeky (word?) sense of humor—-in full display on this post—at the risk of offending Hsien and any other scientist types, I think the level of science here is “just right.” In all truthiness.

Thanks for lending your wit to offer support to those in the baldiness community. Wow — nine months and 300 posts is enough for a book! Or as they say, “blook.”

I appreciate your joining in the Theme Day!
