Breast Implants ID Murder Victim

Her murderer removed her teeth so officials couldn’t use dental records to identify. He also cut off her fingers so fingerprints couldn’t be used, but what he didn’t realize is that breast implants have serial numbers. Because of the serial numbers, police were able to identify the body found in a dumpster just outside Los Angeles, CA last week as 28-year-old swimsuit model Jasmine Fiore (Slain ex-model identified through breast implants).

Breast implants are the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the United States, says the American Academy of Plastic Surgeons. Called mammoplasties, plastic surgeons performed 347,524 of them in 2007, representing a 64% increase since 2000, when 212,500 were done.

Some people may be surprised that an implant placed into the body may have a serial number on it, but that shouldn’t be surprising. As with all goods that are manufactured, authorities have to be able to identify implants, be they for the breast or the hip. Although it’s highly unlikely that the need for murder investigations was ever considered when identifying implants, the identification system is very helpful if something goes wrong with the implant. After it is removed, researchers can identify what implants went where and what my have gone wrong.
