Damsel in Distress

Damsil in DistressI’ve got a few close friends who always seem to be whining about one thing or the other.  It seems as if woe-is-me is a way of life for them and they are always wanting their man to come rescue them.

I can’t exactly speak for men really, but to me, that just seems exhausting.

Do men really feel chivalrous when they leap to the rescue of their distressed lady?

Does it make them feel more “needed?”

Personally, having dated a few men that always seemed to need “fixing” I have to say I can’t imagine finding that attractive in the least.

It’s one thing for me to ask my husband to step up to bat for me when I’ve tried every other alternative, but it seems the only option is to have a more assertive male place the demands on the situation.  But for me to stand back and permit my husband to make all the decisions or take care of all issues that come up would be like rolling over and allowing my marriage to him to absorb my entire individuality.

What’s your take on this?  Should men take the lead in relationships?  Should they be the protector?  Should women rely on men that much?

i can kill the spiders. the others I can’t kill i’ll let my man kill. :-) he he. i HATE women playing damsel in distress especailly if they can really do stuff and just pretend that they can’t just so the man can come running to their rescue. i just can’t do that, pretty exhausting. and if i were a man i should know better to recognize a woman’s real distress over plain whinings.

Yep, it’s a Fabio print. I found it while searching images on yahoo for Damsel in Distress. I was under the impression that was the name of that book :)

    I like Todd’s response – each wearing a pantleg :) Cute!

As for the spiders, I can kill my own of those. It’s the mice I don’t like.

Off-topic: I think I recognise that picture! It’s from one of them romance novels! I forget the title though. LOL. :D

Personally, I think each partner should wear one of the pant legs in the family.

    Yes. Depends. No.

When it comes to relationships, men are conditioned by society to take charge. Otherwise they are viewed as wimps.

If the woman creates a drama, no I won’t get involved. However, I will protect her in the face of physical threats. And yes, I will kill spiders for her.

I have more respect for a woman who is self-confident.
