Love them or hate them, health and medical insurance companies provoke a lot of passion on both sides of the coin.
Now, a lawsuit has been launched by the parents of a 17-year-old girl from California, who died from complications of leukemia after, they claim, Cigna refused to pay for a liver transplant.
According to news stories, the girl was diagnosed with leukemia when she was 14 years old and, after having a bone marrow transplant, her liver failed. The only viable course was to have a liver transplant. The article, Calif. teen’s family sues Cigna over transplant, says that the liver transplant was refused because it was deemed to be experimental. After a huge public outcry, the company reversed its position and said it would cover the transplant, but it was too late and the girl died without having that chance.
