Have you ever wanted just a little heating pad or something to carry around as you move about the house or sit at your desk?
If you’re like me and don’t like heating pads because you don’t want to be attached to a cord or water bottles because of their weight, a rice bag may be the answer for you. A rice bag is simply that, a fabric pouch or bag that is filled with rice. This bag can then be heated in the microwave for a couple of minutes and it will provide a lovely source of warmth for quite a while. They’re great for warming up the bed before you get in, for putting behind your back as you sit at your desk, and for many other things.
If you’d like to learn how to make one of these simple bags, just watch the video.
If you do make a bag or two and are happy with the results and want to share, send a photo of it to the email address noted in the side bar to your right. I’ll do a post with all the photos I receive. Be creative!

Hi Jennifer,
What I do is put the wrong sides together, sew the two long sides and one short side. I then turn it the right side out, sew some channels from the outside.
Then fill it and close the end.
I hope this helps!
Not sure if you can answer this easily or not, but doing the channels in the neck wraps, what is the easiest way to do this? sew the short sides then the channels and fill and sew each section seperatly or just fill the entire thing and try to scoot the rice to the sides and sew the channels?
Hi Justin, while it’s true it’s easy to buy and have one shipped, many people actually enjoy making things. They get to choose the colors, patterns, shapes, sizes, and so on.
You can buy a quilt in a store or you can make one. Takes much longer to make one – but people still do. You can buy storebought cookies or you can bake them yourself. The world is full of things you can buy or make.
And some people don’t have the means to buy things and must make do with what they have. So, I wouldn’t discount making rice bags if people want to.
BTW, if you want to advertise your products, please feel free to contact the advertising dept. here at b5media and arrange for an ad.
Honestly, Its much easier now to puchase an herbal hot/cold pack online with free shipping than to try to make one yourself!
