Migraine relievers you may not know about

If you have migraines, chances are you’ve already tried many things to help relieve the pain. I know when I have a migraine, I’d give anything just to take the edge off. Here are some hints that might help you if you’ve not yet tried them:

Omega-3, which is found mostly in oily fish, can help reduce inflammation.
Ginger can be added to teas and foods. Ginger can reduce inflammation.
Vitamin B2/riboflavin, found in liver, soy nuts, shellfish, dairy products, helps reduce the number of migraines some people experience.
Magnesium is found in seafood, dark green leafy vegetables, helps relax the blood vessels, which relieves pain.
Caffeine is in many painkillers but for some people, caffeine is a migraine trigger, so this depends on the person.

Caffeine works pretty well for me when I take it with a pain reliever. I am not a person who usually likes the caffeine buzz but anything that helps get rid of the unbearable pain of a migraine is a must for me. However I still occasionally get one that nothing can touch and lose a day or more of my life to blinding pain curled up in the fetal position in a dark silent room. Migraines really are a curse!

Recently, my migraine life seems to have dramatically improved. I have always had low- thyroid issues and I have been on medication for years to regulate it so I didnt think that could be related to my headaches. However, after reading a book by Kenneth Blanchard, MD, PhD called “What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Hypothyroidism…” and beginning his protocol my headache life has improved dramatically! The only other thing that has changed recently that could possibly attribute to the migraine improvement is that also at the suggestion of Dr Blanchard, I have begun taking Vitamin D which it turns out I was deficient in and which is in actuality a hormone and not a vitamin and so it can affect thyroid function among other things. I would urge anyone who suffers from migraines to READ THIS BOOK! Good luck to all of us and hang in there!

Ginger is also excellent for nausea/stomach upset, especially in combination with peppermint.

Also just consuming those items with the thought they might work, or placebo effect can help.
