How do you think those fancy cardiac stents got their name? Christopher Snowbeck of the St. Paul Pioneer Press investigated and found that stents were originally named for their inventors then the names were chosen so they’d strike the fancy of the physicians who implanted them. Names must also be “easy to pronounce, easy to remember, isn’t too long, and can be used internationally.”
Some names of stents:
- Palmaz-Schatz Balloon Expandable Stent
- Cypher
- Taxus Express 2
- Endeavor
- Resolute
- Xience V
Which name is your favorite? Perhaps the folks at the Strategic Name Development Product Naming Blog could give us some insight into the process as well.
