Old School? Old? Me?

 wedding

Yep..Us on March 29, 1980…. Aren’t we cute?

So, I am reading Gayla’s intro, totally bleary eyed while drinking my first cup of coffee and the words that keep jumping off the computer screen are…..old…old..old…

Old school is in, right?

I am Marye Audet, and you may know me from some of my other blogs here at b5.  I seem to collect them.  Baking Delights, Kettle& Cup, and Simply Home Remedies are the other places I spend my time.
I think Marc likes that I am writing so much because for the first time in our married life I am using up most of the 25,000 or so words that I feel the pressure to use everyday and he isn’t constantly the primary recipient of them.  It is kind of odd…he is the more social of the two of us but I am the more wordy.  I figure that if I can’t dazzle ‘em with my brilliance I can surely baffle them with my bull.  Marc is more like the kind of guy that is really quiet so when he does say something the entire world stops and listens.  It is normally profound.

We have been married for 28 years.  When we tell people that they seem to think it is some kind of accomplishment but really with Marc it has been easy.

That isn’t to say that we have not experienced our ups and downs, we have.  We have experienced everything from infidelity to being told we were infertile (God had other plans), heartbreaking  miscarriages to my mom living with us until she died.  We have been through unemployment, the near death of a child, being broke, and a sudden (literally overnight) disability that has turned our lives upside down.  Each thing has served to strengthen our relationship and bring us closer together.

I am totally trying to decide what to say here…I want to leave something for Marc to say.. :P  Just wait until you meet him..he is the coolest.

I suppose that I will leave you with my view of marriage..so  you will have kind of an idea what to expect from me, and you can run screaming into the sultry, humid morning.  It may not be sultry and humid where you are but trust me, here it is.  We should hit 100+plus today.

Personally, I think:

  • Marriage is a blast
  • Love is a choice
  • Married sex should make porn look boring
  • If your marriage is bland you need to change yourself
  • Marriage without God is just a partnership

Now, you can surely disagree with any of those you like…and tell me how wrong I am when you are married  longer than me. :)

Good thing I agree with your thoughts on marriage because I have only been married for five years this August 31.

I can imagine! Take some time for you as you can..it is important that you are rested ..but you know that. I am praying for you and him.

Surgery is for his adenoids. He’s had a lot of illnesses in the past year. Poor kid… 19 months, and his second surgery on the horizon. Needless to say, I am rather stressed and stretched thin. :)

Maria what is he having surgery for, if you don’t mind my asking?
It is hard having a child sick. Our #7th child spent 2 weeks in serious condition in Dallas Children’s Hospital just as he turned 2…and it is just no fun!

He is on the mend, but should be having surgery come Thursday, so maybe after that? I do a lot of skimming now…and less reading. I miss my bloggy friends! :)

i hope he feels better Maria. :)

That’s great. I think I skimmed the post talking about the joint venture, but my son has been sick, so I have good reason. ;-)

Nope, Maria, Kerri and Bald Man are still here…we are co blogging with them. :)

  15. By Maria

Does this mean Kerri and Bald Man are gone?

Disagree on your definition of marriage, but Kerri and BaldMan had a post on that a few weeks ago with a a lot of discussion in the comments.

Erynne, you must have a cool mom or something.

Courtney, yeah, we figured after baby #8 that
wearing wedding rings was now optional. Sometimes we stayed married because we couldn’t afford the divorce, how about THAT!

Wow. Going through all you have I can say that is a true marriage. Most people wouldhave given up at the first sign of hardship. You are an example.

I very much agree with your views of what a marriage should be.
