Smokers have more back pain

A survey was done in Germany, of over 8000 people, and researchers found that people who smoked complained more often about chronic back pain than non-smokers.

cigaretteandashtray_nc Although the reasons can’t be determined from this survey – for example, it could be that people smoke because of chronic pain – it is an interesting finding.

The researchers found that both smokers and those who used to smoke fell into the “more back pain” group. Those who smoked for more than 16 years had double the chance of having back pain, and even more for those who smoked more than 26 years, than did those who smoked for 10 years or less.
