Tepha DNA Sutures

stitchesThe FDA has cleared the first suture ever made by recombinant DNA technology. The chemicals used to create the TephaFLEX Absorbable Suture is produced by genetically engineered bacteria. A product warning:

The device is contraindicated in patients allergic to the cells or the growth media used to produce the absorbable polymeric material.

Question: How would patients know in advance whether they were allergic or not?
