THURSDAY THIRTEEN
In Writing Your Alzheimer’s Thoughts, I talked about times when I found it difficult to write about crises in my life, even though I’m a writer by profession. However, I did mention, “Writing and sharing your experiences often helps others to cope and realize they’re not alone.”
So when I was over the emotion and challenges of that occasion I wrote newspaper and magazine articles, a book, and now blogs to share and to encourage others. Many caregivers do this and maintain blogs where they share.
Here are 13 I’ve discovered:
- Alzheimer’s Team by Krista
- Alzheimer’s Speaks by Lori
- Alzheimer Cafe (in French)
- SandwichINK by Kaye (for the “Sandwich” generation caregiver)
- Knitting Doc, The Diary of a Psychiatrist with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) by David Thomas, MD
- Our Journey Through Alzheimer’s by Latane Barton
- A Caregiver’s Journal by Valerie
- Elder Care Cafe by Edie Dykeman
- Know It Alz by Kathy
- Witnessing Alzheimer’s by Esther
- Minding Our Elders by Carol Bradley Bursack
- Seniors Support by Marijke Durning
- The Tangled Neuron

I have recently created a blog about the passing of my grandpa to Alzheimer’s disease. I am hoping that more people visit the site and comment. Every penny I earn there will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association to aid research and support groups. Please visit http://www.deargrandpa1.blogspot.com/
Thank you, everyone, for stopping by and sharing your experiences and thoughts in caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease. To learn more about my Alzheimer’s writings and caregiving experiences, check out Notes from an Alzheimer’s Caregiver, http://alzheimersnotes.blogspot.com/
I am happy to know there are blogs out there with Alzheimers. It’s difficult to read some, but even to see your own grandmother go through it has been hard on my family for the last 6 years. She was diagnoised with Dementia and now is in the stage of early Alzheimer’s. My grandpa was in denial for the longest time, but now he has come around and we have all accepted it. What helps me get through it is just being there for her, and the family and focusing on the wonderful memories. Try not to focus on the negative and just enjoy the time you do have with your family member going through this. I have reached out to quite a few people about how to cope and deal. Any insight on how to help her would be helpful. Thank you
A person with Alzheimer’s Disease is likely to have perception difficulties, this is very true, and ur guide about to take care of our dear ones is wonderful. Thanx
Hi! Thanks you so much for these posts, my husband has Alzheimers diagnoised at 65 but had it much early than that as we realize now…I have two daughters in their late teens this has been just devastating to our family. I have a blog as well http://www.sherizeee.blogspot.com I would love to have you guys visit. I am going to add theses and this to my list of blogs . Your feedback is welcome. I am so glad to know there are others out there dealing with this disease. Sheri
I follow all these blogs they are great.
I follow almost all the blogs. They are great. So much love , info and care going on. Sometimes they make you cry and sometimes they make you laugh. But they are always a good read.
We’d like to add our blog tips and experiences about rural life with Alzheimer’s
at

Thank you for your very helpful site.
Thank you for sharing these other sites. I took care of my Mom for 10 years before she passed. My Mom had 3 other siblings. Three of the four were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s as was there mother and at least one aunt. I am trying to keep up with all the new resources and research on Alzheimer’s that is now available.
It has been two years since she passed. It has taken me along time as I dealt with the grief and intensity of her journey. Recently I learned about blogging. What an amazing tool! I wish I had known of it when I was caring for Mom. The community aspect of it would have been such a blessing, so many times I felt so isolated and alone.
Thanks again for sharing.

I’m a blogging caregiver for my Mom and a quilter too.
Mary Emma,
Writing about our experience helps us, and hopefully helps others as well. I didn’t get into blogging until I became a caregiver to my father, and the blog you sited was started to share my thoughts and feelings. Thanks for putting the list together – I will check out the other sites. And thanks for including Elder Care Cafe.
Thank you, Marijke, for stopping by Alzheimer’s Notes, too. You’re providing great information at Seniors Support for those in this age group and their caregivers/families.
Thank you, Esther, for stopping by Alzheimer’s Notes. I’ve enjoyed visiting your blog, Witnessing Alzheimer’s, and find you have helpful information and encouragement for those involved in caregiving. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the link M.E. – I’m going to check out the others too. :-)
Marijke
