Traveling and migraines

For those of you who get migraines, do you find that traveling makes them worse?

I just returned from a conference that wasn’t very far; it was a 2 and a half hour flight each way, but traveling is tiring, I find. I think in my case, it’s the dryness and the dehydration that comes with flying and sleeping in hotel rooms. It’s not from over imbibing (although I might as well have considering how my head has been feeling since Sunday!), but it started as a low level headache that is now morphing into a migraine.

It’s tough because whether you are traveling for business or pleasure, to have migraine pain while you’re trying to go about your day is bad enough at home, it’s that much worse when you’re away from home.

What do you all find helps when you travel or is it not an issue for you?

Hi — I know just how you feel, and I usually blame travel-migraines on the time change and the disruption of my sleeping schedule. (I do try to drink lots of water on the flight to avoid dehydration.)

My last trip was a 2+ hour flight and I didn’t get any headaches: I was wondering if it was because my flights in both directions left later in the day, so I didn’t have to get up really early for them? That combined with only a 1-hour time changed may have helped me dodge my usual travel-related migraines.
