Video Tuesday: Alcoholism

Whether you view alcoholism as a disease, an addiction, or both, there’s no doubting that alcholism needs treatment. We also know that the person who is struggling with alcohol wants to be helped before he or she can be helped.

xchng_breweryThe toughest part, most say, is by accepting the diagnosis – accepting that you have a problem with alcohol, that you are an alcoholic. Then, you need to decide what type of treatment you think you need. There’s no one-size-fits-all treatment for alcoholism. For some people, cold turkey works and remains successful, for others, it wouldn’t get them anywhere.

I don’t believe that it is completely necessary for an addict to recognize that he is an alcoholic at the beginning of treatment. “You can lead a horse to water, but you cant make him drink”…but you can make him thirsty. :)
