30 reusable items vs. 30 disposable items

You have hundreds of choices when it comes to reusable products vs. disposable products. Here are 30 ideas. Even if you just choose 5 or 10, and use them all year, it’ll make a huge difference for the planet.

Snack baggies from Plum Creek Mercantile

EarthLust water bottles

  • Refillable water bottles over plastic.
  • Rain water for car washing and gardens over new tap water.
  • Cloth napkins over paper.
  • The amazing reusable mom product – Breastfeeding over plastic bottles.
  • Refillable ink cartridges over new.
  • Cloth produce bags over plastic.
  • Food containers over foil, plastic wrap, or wax paper.
  • Plantable or homemade paper over new.
  • Wash cloths over baby wipes.

Choose one, choose five, or choose all of the above over disposables to make a big impact.

At Our House We Don’t Drink Tap Water . We Always Buy Plastic Bottles .

    What Should We Do ?

Plastic bottle water can be toxic if the bottles contain BPA. Try a water filter like Brita. Not only does it filter out water impurities, but it also removes the chlorine taste from your water. You save money too by drinking filtered tap water as oppose to buying bottled water.

I take my Nalgene bottle everywhere I go, and I mean EVERYWHERE!
: ) I have several of them so if some are in the dishwasher, there’s always a clean one. I LOVE those bottles. They’re unbreakable, and they’re BPA free now for people who are worried about that. I drink tap water because Toronto tap water is better quality than bottled water, but I guess everyone has their own opinion about that. One of my friends has a separate small tap on the side of her sink that pours out filtered water at a fast pace. I like the taste of that, but I usually just use the water from the main tap because it’s colder and faster. We have one of those separate filter taps at our cottage and the algae from the lake is constantly clogging it so we always have to scrub the algae off of the charcoal filter, but that is the best water I’ve ever tasted. : ) I also drink the lake water straight from the lake, but it’s a very clean lake. There is no better water quality in Ontario.

I should also mention that the Nalgene bottles are leak proof unlike those metal ones. My brother dropped a metal bottle from his lap in the car to the pavement (a distance of like a foot and a half) and a hidden seam at the base got smashed, now it has a hole and it doesn’t hold water. Where as I can drop a full Nalgene bottle down a flight of stairs (by accident) and only worry about damage to the stairs, not to the bottle. I was in a store and accidentally dropped my full Nalgene bottle, and was amused to see that it bounced. LOL. I love things that are care free like that. : )

We have purchased reusable snack bags from http://www.crafttwins.etys.com and my kids just love them. They came in a large variety of fabrics for all ages. They are well made to last a long time so you can forget about purchasing plastic sandwich bags.
