5 Ways to Exhaust Your Child This Summer

I have a most energetic child, so I’m always seeking out ways to tire him out for bedtime. Here is my top 5 list. We did THREE of the below just yesterday, and my darling son slept like a rock last night. Feel free to add on to the list – I’m always open to new ideas!

1. Bounce out that energy. Warehouses stuffed with bounce houses like Pump it Up offer open Pop-In Playtime, usually a two-hour period where you can let your child loose on all the bouncies. It’s a sure way to sweat out some energy!slide

2. Swimming and splashing! Is there really anything more exhausting than jumping in a pool for hours on end in the hot sun? If you don’t have your own pool or access to a community pool, then friend someone who has one. Perfect for these 100-degree days!

3. Slipping and sliding. I’ll admit it costs a fortune, but if you live close enough to a water park, then make plans to go. Some places have weekday discounts and/or offer coupons. Unless you’re loaded and enjoy really crappy food, I’d suggest bringing your own lunch.

4. Skating and falling down and getting back up again. Ice or roller, this is great exercise for adults, too! And I used to be quite a roller skater in my day. Trying not to fall down constantly uses a lot of muscles and can wear out little bodies quickly, I’ve found!

5. Running and tumbling around like crazy. Some gyms – especially those that cater to the young ones – offer open tumbling hours during the week to jump and tumble and roll around.
