My son’s school had the good fortune to have children’s book author Antony Lishak visit yesterday. He read them Clickety-Clack, Something to Pack and signed books after school. It was a real treat!
In addition to Clickety-Clack, we also picked up Jumble the Puppy and it was a race to get home to see which we should read first. In Clickety-Clack, a counting storybook, I was also very impressed by Ian Penney’s artwork. Rich and detail-oriented, there’s lots to see and “feel.” And there’s no escaping the appeal of an adorable puppy up to mischief.
Antony Lishak is a former primary school teacher who also has a fabulous website. His writing tips are good ones to remember even for this old dog:
- Think before you write.
- Remember – We are ALL authors.
- Use your own experiences.
- Decide who you are writing for.
- No one ever wrote a story and got it right first time!
- Look for ways of saying what you want to say in as brief a way as possible.
And don’t miss his other site, Creative Writing 4 Kids, where children can read and write stories for publication online.
