Being a dad comes jam packed with responsibilities like learning to change those nasty diapers, learning to feed and rock the baby, and keep the baby comfortable. As the child gets older you have responsibilities to help the child play, be safe, and learn how to read. There are so many responsibilities you need to look after especially once the child gets into school and even extracurricular activities.
Especially as a Stay at Home Dad you are around your kids an awful lot more than a stereotypical dad out in the workplace. Even though you may know how to change diapers, cook, clean, and do all of the essentials of parenthood, what about protecting your child when it comes down to choking, falling into a pool, or getting hit on the head? I know we all feel like we are super dads when we wash out a cut when your kid falls off his bike, and we put on a nice Scooby-doo band-aid to cover up the hurt.
Have you ever thought about learning CPR? Do you know CPR already? I know I have taken some classes on it and have actually gotten certified when I was living in Ohio, but that was 5 years ago.
Interactive Dad Magazine published an article last month stating most dads say they know CPR and could actually save a life. Well that is great. It also touches on the dad from Orlando, Florida who saved his son’s life after he fell into the family swimming pool. He knew CPR and performed it on his son and saved his life.
His 2-year-old fell into the family swimming pool. He was floating in the pool a minute before his brother spotted him and yelled for help.
His dad performed CPR and the story has a happy ending.
Kind of makes that band-aid look insignificant doens’t it? Go read the article.

Peter, I don’t think the guy who saved his son in the pool was a stay at home dad. I think it would be important for any dad to learn CPR…
I need to go back and take a refreshers course.
Yes I am. I am stereotypical dad though. Although I do not feel all that stereotypical.
