Cooking With Kids: Cookie Pops Decorating Fun

Let your children help you make some homemade Christmas gifts this year. Let them help you decorate a cookie bouquet for family and friends. It doesn’t have to be to fancy, just have fun with it. Grandparents will love it.

Christmas cookie pops

Use your favorite cookie recipe ( I just posted 50 Cute and Tasty Christmas Cookies at She Knows Parties), or this quick and easy recipe from Betty Crocker®.

Pop Art Cookies
Prep Time: 1 Hr
Start to Finish: 1 Hr
1 pouch (1 lb 1.5 oz) Betty Crocker® sugar cookie mix
1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 tablespoon Gold Medal® all-purpose flour
1 egg
12 wooden sticks with rounded ends
2 pouches (7 oz each) Betty Crocker® cookie icing in desired colors
Betty Crocker® colored confetti, decors and sprinkles, if desired
1. Heat oven to 375°F. In medium bowl, stir cookie mix, softened butter, flour and egg until soft dough forms.
2. On floured surface, roll dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with 3-inch round cookie cutter. On ungreased cookie sheet, place cutouts 2 inches apart. Carefully insert a wooden stick into side of each cookie.
3. Bake 7 to 9 minutes or until edges are light golden brown. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheet. Cool completely, about 15 minutes.
4. Spread cookie icing on cooled cookies. Pipe additional icing on cookies in desired designs. Decorate as desired with confetti, decors and sprinkles.
Makes about 1 dozen cookies

High Altitude (3500-6500 ft): No change.
Special Touch: Serve cookies from glasses in coordinating colors. Fill the glasses with jelly beans or other small candies to hold the cookie pops upright.

Have fun with it, pair a half dozen cookies together in a cute basket. Use floral foam in the basket to stand your pops up. These would make cute party favors, teachers gifts, or grandparents gifts.
