So I got the Lee Valley Christmas catalog in the mail today, or as my wife refers to it, my ‘tool porn‘. Flipping through looking at the gift ideas, I saw that they’re offering this cool Dynamo Hand-Powered Flashlight Kit.

It’s your standard hand-powered flashlight, but this one comes un-assembled. It says it only takes about 30 minutes to put together and offers a great chance to teach a young one the principles of eletrical generation.

Once you’re done, you’ll have a fully functional torch that you’ll never have to worry about having batteries for. Squeezing the handle spins a magnetic disc between two coils of cooper wire to create the juice to illuminate the bright bulb. Each squeeze transforms into 2 seconds of light.
