Last night, I meant to open a can of evaporated milk, but accidentally opened a can of sweet condensed milk. I didn’t want the sweet condensed milk to go to waste, so I asked my mom what I should make with it. She suggested this simple and yummy cake.
You’ll need:
- Box of cake mix – You’ll also need the ingredients to make the cake, which are probably eggs, oil, and water. Or if you’re feeling up to it, you can make a cake from scratch.
- 14 oz can of sweet condensed milk
- container of Cool Whip or whipped topping
- coconut (optional)
Make the cake according to the directions on the box and cook it in a 9×13 cake pan. Allow the cake to cool for a bit, leave the cake in the pan, and pour the can of condensed milk over the cake. Allow the milk to spread over the cake and drain down in the sides. Let it sit for a few minutes and then spread all of the Cool Whip over the cake. Top with coconut, if desired. Refrigerate cake. It is probably best to let this cake sit for a while before eating so that the milk can soak up inside the cake. Let me know how it turns out.
Have you made a cake like this one before?

CFO: I think the cake would taste good without any topping too. It’s a great recipe because it’s simple and delicious and the taste can be changed so easily with just adding a topping.
I’m thinking of making this cake for church on Sunday! :)
Karen – You sound like you’re in a really good place, mentally. I’m sure the perfect job will come along at the right time. In the meantime, I wanted to let you know that I made the cake yesterday and gave it to my boys’ daycare teachers today. They LOVED it. And I didn’t even bother putting anything on top of the Cool Whip! (I was thinking about chocolate shavings but ran out of time.) Thank you so much for the recipe – it was so easy, it’s going into my list of favorites!
CFO: I hope you’ll enjoy the recipe. Thanks for your prayers. I feel that God has prepared us for this time. It was just about a year ago that we took the Financial Peace classes at our church that helped us to be more financially secure.
Thank you for this recipe! It’s exactly what I needed!
And I’m praying that your husband finds the perfect job soon!
Tami: Thanks for letting us know. I’ll be glad when our cake is gone. I’ve been eating way too much of it!!! lol
Thanks for your prayers. They’re appreciated! :)
It was excellent with strawberries. And the cake was great with just the Eagle Brand on it. Of course, I can eat that straight out of the can. Your family is in my prayers.
I have made this cake before with chopped up Heath bars on top. It’s wonderful!
Sounds like a quick version of the Tres Leches Pastel cake.
Jen: That sounds yummy.
Tami: I’m sure the strawberries would work just as well. Strawberries, cake, and whipped topping are always a good combination! :)
He hasn’t found a job yet. We’re still praying and looking.
Wonder if this cake would be good with mashed strawberries and whipped topping. I was planning on making strawberry shortcake tonight for supper and I might just try this recipe minus the coconut. Has your hubby found a job? Haven’t heard from you in a while.
My boyfriend makes a cake like that, but he puts Heath toffee bits on top of it, minus coconut. YUM!
