easy holiday projects – embroidered gift card holder

I know some people think that gift cards are “cheating”, but I actually like getting them :-)  If you want to make your gift card presents a little more personalized, how about making a little embroidered stocking to tuck the card into?

I cut out the outline of a stocking from white glitter felt (the stiffer felt works best for this project) making sure that the gift card will fit!

I used different decorative stitches to outline the heel & toe and then fill in the stocking.  If your machine doesn’t do decorative stitches, try alternating straight & zig-zag stitches.  I just used plain sewing machine thread, but you can go as fancy as you’d like!

When the front is embroidered to your satisfaction, lay it onto a larger piece of felt, wrong sides together.   Straight stitch around the outside.   I used pinking shears to cut out the stocking, but use what you’d prefer :-)

Presto, a cute & simple way to give gift cards!
