Easy Homemade Brown Sugar

brown sugarDid you know that you can make your own brown sugar?  I had no idea until just recently.  I didn’t even know how brown sugar was made.

Making your own brown sugar is the frugal way to go.  I’ll admit that sometimes I’ll pay a little more for convenience, but this recipe is so easy that we all can do it!

1 cup white sugar
1-2 tbsp molasses

Use 1 tbsp molasses for light brown sugar and 2 tbsp for dark. Just mix the two ingredients together. How simple is that?

This is really a great recipe for those of you in other countries that can’t find brown sugar.  Now you can still have your brown sugar for your oatmeal or you can make your chocolate chip cookies.  Enjoy!  :)

Thanks. Glad you like our site. :)

I’ve tried Freecycle. I get notifications of things that are being given away. So far I’ve only been able to claim one thing that was listed (some little boy clothes). I’ve listed some things that I need, but so far I haven’t had any luck with those. I’ve heard some people have great success in their area.

I just found your site and love it! I was reading some of your past articles and I wondered if you guys have ever tried Freecycle? It’s a great way to get and give gently used items. I’ve had a blast meeting the people I freecycle to and knowing that my things will be put to good use!

I’ve heard that mixing it with your hands was the best way. I’ve got plenty of brown sugar right now, but when I need some I’ll try this recipe.

How do you mix it up? I always have trouble getting things to mix completely. Would you just use a big mixer? Or a spoon and elbow grease?
