Green Review: Loofah Art

ECOBAGS carries a heaping handful of reusable bags (as you may have guessed) but they also carry other cool accessories, among them, Loofah Scrubbers from Loofah Art. I recently got one to review and think these would make super cute little stocking stuffers this holiday season.

LOOFAH ART EGGPLANT

PRODUCT: Loofah Art- Eggplant

USE: For cleaning fruits and veggies, washing dishes, and other cleaning projects.

COST: $3.99 – available at ECOBAGS

WHAT I THINK:

Loofah Art kitchen scrubbers are eco-friendly in that they’re naturally grown and processed, made with 100% natural vegetable dye coloring and at the end of your scrubber’s life it’s 100% biodegradable. The scrubber came attached to cardboard packaging  made with post-consumer recycled paper and there was no plastic – the loofah was attached with a string. Overall a nice eco-friendly product.

Loofah Art states that these scrubbers are, “Gentle enough to scrub fruits and vegetables but tough enough to clean dirty dishes and stubborn pots and pans.” I don’t agree.

I LOVED how this scrubber worked on veggies. I scrubbed some potatoes and carrots and they got super clean. However, when I used my scrubber on a semi-soiled pot, it didn’t fare as well. The non-scratch fibers of the scrubber are cool because they won’t scratch the following: woods, glass, plastics, gel coats, vinyl, canvas, rubber, aluminum, stainless steel, copper, brass, counter-stove tops, appliances, microwave ovens, cooled down grills, and all delicate nonstick surfaces BUT the non-scratch fibers also aren’t that handy on tough messes.

My loofah is obviously purple, and I rinsed it once before use as recommended, but it still gets purple water on my sink if it gets wet and I set it down. However, because the dye is natural vegetable dye, and non-toxic I’m not that concerned, and it doesn’t stain at all. The water was a little purple but rinsed right away.

One nice thing about this loofah is that after scrubbing a super icky pot, and thus smashing the loofah in my hand, it fluffed right back into shape. Also cool is the fact that it comes with a little string so you can hang it over your faucet to dry – and it dries fast and doesn’t smell gross like a sponge or towel.

Lastly, these loofahs come in totally cute colors and shapes – tons to choose from. The gallery below will give you an idea, but there are many more.

OVERALL SCORE:

4 pretty trees

Four out of five little trees. This product looses a point for not scrubbing dirty dishes as well as the company claims. They do scrub less icky dishes just fine though and didn’t scratch any of my dishes. I think these are way too adorable to use for dishes anyhow. I think they make fab veggie and fruit scrubbers, and because of their cuteness along with a super low cost, these make great gifts. You could get a bunch of the veggie scrubbers and make someone a little scrubby salad gift!
