Homemade Christmas Ornament Ideas: Pinecones

pinecone-christmas-ornament-green.JPG

A couple of years ago, my son and I would take long walks around the neighborhood while pulling his wagon to collect his “treasures”, usually pinecones. We had so many pinecones in the house we decided to make them into ornaments to give to friends and family and also use to decorate our tree.

They were very easy to make. First we painted the pinecones. We like using sparkly metallic paints best. Then wered-pinecone-christmas-ornament.JPG glued a ribbon to the top to act as a hanger. My husband and even got into the fun and spray painted some gold and silver. I think using fake spray snow might also look nice. Our homemade ornaments looks great in our tree and sparkle when light hits. Our family members also continue to enjoy their ornaments.

The good thing about this project is that it’s appropriate for almost any age. My son was three the first year he painted pinecone ornaments. Think of it as a nice way to spend time together as a family, and give for the holidays.

We love making firestarters for our family and friends who have fireplaces or wood stoves.

It’s a good way to use up old crayons!
