As mothers/fathers we all go through the birthday ritual, you know the whole cake, ice cream and a present or two. Sometimes if the child is lucky enough he or she gets to have a birthday party with all his/her family and friends. This isn’t always the case though, sometimes a birthday falls the wrong time of the year, other times a child must go to another parent’s house for their birthday. Or in our case, one family member won’t be here for it so you must decide what to do.

The Life of a Home Mom
What’s your take on the “early birthday party”? I’ve heard some parents celebrate a child’s half birthday, in other words those that have a summer birthday will celebrate it 6 months earlier. Course by the time their actual birthday rolls around won’t they want another? If you’ve had success with this please let me know. I have two children that have summer birthdays, one child that has an almost-Easter and a fourth that has a St.Patty’s day.
We recently had to celebrate our sons’ birthdays early due to the fact that not everyone would be here. Yes, I’m a sentimental person and will be celebrated with just a small cake and birthday breakfast here at the house. What do you do?

You know I had never heard of these “half birthdays” until my now 8 year old started school. I remember her bringing home an invitation to a “Half Birthday” and she was so excited telling me that it was really speacial. When I asked her when the birthday was and she told me in July I was shocked and explained that it was too early to say yes. She had to explain that it was in two weeks and they wanted it early so others could be there. I guess it makes sense but then they’ll just want another one when their birthday rolls around. Course that’s just my theory, I’ve never actually done one.
I’ve done a week or few days early but never a month or 6 months early. That’s just too early for me. If relatives can’t be here, then they can’t be. It’s way of life. My son understands. My daughter is too young to even care about her birthdays :)
