Kentucky Law Exempts Breastfeeding Mothers from Jury Duty

Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher recently signed a bill that exempts nursing mothers from jury duty in Kentucky. Senate Bill 111, sponsored by Senator Tom Buford, passed unanimously in both the state Senate and House. The new law amends Kentucky Revised Statutes 29A.100 to add the following provision:

(4) The judge shall excuse a mother who is breastfeeding a child or expressing breastmilk from jury service until such time as the child is old enough that the mother is no longer breastfeeding the child.
