Post Thanksgiving TMX Tickle Me Elmo Craziness

TMX Tickle Me ElmoHow many of you have ever given in to the craziness of the holidays and have actually gone shopping for one of those “hot list items” that’s liable to get you hurt?

Have you HEARD the stories associated with TMX Tickle Me Elmo or the Playstation 3?  I’m not sure of other items that appear on that list, but you can bet I won’t be shopping for any of them!

Back when I was a twelve-year-old I wanted a Cabbage Patch Doll.  Nothing on this planet was going to sway me from that Christmas wish.  One of my aunt’s called and asked if my mother and I would like to go with her on Black Friday to a local department store and wait in line for them to open and release a set amount of dolls to the public.

Being as little and quick as I was, I made it to the table of dolls rather quickly – I SCORED!  I Had the perfect Cabbage Patch in my hot little hands and I was thrilled.  And THEN it happened - trauma took over and my phobia of Christmas shopping began that very instant.  Some silverhaired lady, whom I swear was an undercover Colts lineman literally HIT me in the face and took the doll from my tiny little hands.

In complete fear, I scruntched under the tables and hid until my mother and aunt were close enough for me to grab ahold of.  I thought my aunt was really gonna hurt that old lady that day!

I left that store sobbing and emptyhanded – and didn’t get my Cabbage Patch until that following summer – my grandma and grandpa found a way to make my belated Christmas wish come true.  Even then, the manager of that tiny store in Branson, Missouri wrapped the box so it couldn’t be seen because the craze was still causing trauma all over the U.S.  I’ll admit, I was terrified walking down the street with that doll in my hands, but I finally had my doll.

Now, I’m a very loving parent and I try very hard to give my kids what they want, but I assure you, I’m NOT going to punch some little kid in the face and rip it from their hands.  What exactly is it that drives these people so mad during this holiday season?  Do they secretly fear their child is Damian, the demon seed and fear what will happen if they don’t grant those Christmas wishes?  Are people so greedy that they really seek to manipulate this holy time of year to gain financially from purchasing and driving the prices up?

Either way, it’s just sick!  And manufacturers who would seek to manipulate the consumer market by making their toys the “most valuable” by limiting the supply shouldn’t gain at all.  I wouldn’t buy a Tickle Me Elmo if it was being sold secondhand at the local Goodwill.

I certainly hope that old bag that hit me got what was coming to her over that horrifying episode from my youth!

I can’t believe how high the prices went for this toy during christmas. They are cute though check out the youtube videos.

If it has batteries or makes noise then I’m afraid Santa’s not going to be able to get down with a sackful of those, or if he does, he’ll be leaving by an entirely different route.

LOL I’d love to see that happen someday!

As for the dangers of Black Friday – I was just talking to a family member last night about it. We have some relatives who are right there in that vicious bunch. It’s hard to believe little old ladies become such monsters that day!

I used to work in retail, and when Sing and snore Earnie came out, they sold out. People would ask me if we had any more, and I’d would say no. I wanted so much to get on the intercom and riducle those cutomers, like they did to Arnie in “JIngle all the way.” “Hey everybody, this dufus here is looking for a sing and snore Ernie! Ha Ha Ha!”

ON a serious note, people do get vicous. I think it’s safer to go to Iraq than it is to go to a store on black friday.

I’ve been to only one black friday and it was crazy, and of course I wasn’t aware of how dangerous and brought my three kids. Never will I do it again, take the kids I mean. And this year I’ll be doing it but I’ll be doing it safely behind my closed front door and online.
