Prison Workers Babysit a 2-Year-Old

A group of prisoners got to take a little break when they were working on cleaning up the highways this past week. Why? They played babysitter to a 2-year-old boy that was found walking around the rural highway. These prisoners are suppose to be strictly into cleaning and not talking to anyone that passes by, but they couldn’t do that to a 2 year old by himself, near a highway.

The Telegraph had this to say:

The six inmates shared their lunches with the 2 1/2-year-old boy, who apparently had wandered away from home, and played with him while authorities located the boy’s parents, said Gary Kershner, a correctional officer who was overseeing the prisoners.

“Me and my inmate crew, we just kind of baby-sat for the next three hours,” Mr Kershner said. “They were as much entertained by the child as he was by them.”

There was one Correctional Officer and six inmates that were from the Maryland Correctional Training Center.  From everything I’ve read a truck driver found the boy and dropped him off with the crew. Guessing he was leaving town and had been hoping parents would come looking but if he had a scheduled run he couldn’t stay long. He saw the group of inmates and figured the boy would be safe there. I have no clue, just that the kid was dropped off with them.

The police were called and the guys entertained the boy just as he entertained them. The police found the child’s home nearby. It seems the father was working at home when he left his 18 year old in charge so he could get work done. His 18 year old took off, I’m guessing he believed with the child so he had no clue the baby was missing. Thankfully there were some very kind people just down the road and no sicko.
