Project Blog: The Blog I Write and The Woman Who Writes It

20060129-009.jpg

The Babylune tag line is The First Phase of New Motherhood. When this blog was conceived, it was meant to journal my recovery from the birth of my second child. And, it was supposed to capitalize on the growing popularity of weight loss blogs as I concentrated on shedding the weight I gained during a low-activity pregnancy. After two eventful deliveries and other reproductive adventures, this blog and parenting have turned out to be about a lot more than I ever could have imagined.

Now that my youngest is almost two, I am clearly not in the “first phase” of anything any more. As a result, I’ve been thinking about why Babylune exists and why I continue to write it. Every once in a while, I go back to look at my mission statement and remember what I felt like when my mother went home, my husband started working longer hours and I was left all alone with two children, double the workload and a whole lot of anxiety.

Plus, I feel compelled to share information. Many women don’t know a lot about how their fertility works and how it can be managed. As I work to end my own ignorance, why not help others do the same?

I am not always a stellar parent. In fact, those of you who know about the sushi incident of 2007, may even think I am crappier than most. I have, though, figured one thing out. For every woman who feels all alone when she has a baby, there is another mother who understands exactly what she is going through. I see this space as way to bring those two women together.

Besides, once I actually learned how to spell the word h-e-m-o-r-r-h-o-i-d, I realized I’d developed a skill I might as well use to help womankind.

O.K. Confession time. There is a reason why I felt the urge to tell you everything about this blog and the woman who writes it at this particular moment.

I recently told you about my participation in Project Blog and the prize you can win when you vote for me your favorite post in the challenge this week at Reality on Bravo.

The first challenge that I hope this post addresses was this:

On Project Runway, contestants were asked to create an outfit that showed who they are as designers. Bloggers, your challenge is equally simple – give us a post about why you do what you do. Why do you blog? Why do you blog about your particular subject? What sets your blog apart? How did you get started? These are just some of the questions you may choose to answer in your post, but the actual content is totally up to you!

I should confess that I am not participating just to give you a chance to win. I’m competing for the title of “best blogger” with:

<>Randi at Brad Pitt Watch: “The First Challenge”
Jodie at Gossip on Sports: “Project Blog: Week One Challenge”
Cynthia at TV of the Absurd: “The Five TV Shows that Changed My Life”
Winnie at Watching the View: “Project Blog: Why I Blog the View”
Sally
at Style Fix: “The Fashionable Child Who Writes Becomes the Fashion Writer”
Kara at Colorado Review: “Why I Blog About Colorado Travel”
Mark at Get Incensed: “Project Blog. Bravo” One of us is going to be eliminated each week based on a combination of points from judges and reader votes. We’re putting ourselves in vulnerable positions, but there are some fun prizes for the one who makes it all the way:

So, I would really appreciate it if you headed over to Reality on Bravo between Friday, November 16, 2007 and Tuesday November 20th to vote for my your favorite post in the competition poll.

Thanks for the comment, my fellow b5-er! And while my post may be entertaining (per your compliment), yours is most heartfelt. Nicely done.

  12. By Sally

Thanks for the comment! You had me rolling when you mentioned learning to spell hem…yea I don’t know how to spell it yet.

    I also have mild senility.

  14. By Jennifer

I realized that after everyone else said, “I VOTED” what is wrong with my brain? Seriously. No worries I did vote and will go again tomorrow if my head’s screwed on correctly.

  15. By Kate

Actually, Jennifer, the voting DID open yesterday. You (and everyone) can vote for me daily until Tuesday.

  16. By Jennifer

Last message — I will not vote for you now. If I could read at all I would have noted that voting starts tomorrow. Duh.

  17. By Jennifer

Oh, yeah and I gave ya a stumble :)

I don’t know… I like your blog and I must admit I do adore eco-fab too. Hmmm, what to do…

Just kidding. Well, not about liking ef, I do. I am however, also a loyal girl so I will go vote for you now. I thought this was a good example of what it sounds like they want. Good luck. I hope you win :)
