School Lunch Prices Continue to Rise

Every year it seems that the cost of the school lunch goes up. Am I right? We have two sets of prices to follow this year, one being the

Junior High and the other for the elementary school and let me say it is cheaper when you are younger.

Elementary School: $1.85
Junior High: $2.00 (secondary student), $2.50 (premier meal)

While the prices may not seem all that bad or like much of a difference it all adds up when you do this every day or have more than one child going to school. Many thought with the recession going on the prices of school lunches would drop, however that has not yet been the case. Schools may have only raised the price from $.05-.20 but it has still rised up. The reason for this is the price of food rising, if the price of food rises so will the cost of having the lunch room due to shipping, cooking and all that other fun stuff.

Looking for a cheaper way for your children to eat lunch? Think about having them bring their own lunch. Here’s a few yummy snack ideas kids love:

- Peanutbutter & Jelly
- Top ramon in a thermos
- burritoes
- salad
- wraps (chicken, shrimp, etc)

What are some of your favorite items to pack your kids for lunch? Another favorite of ours to pack are those lunchables because they have a huge selection for even the pickiest of kids. Has the price of your school lunch went up or down from last year?

That’s actually pretty cheap. Ours are $2.10 here (and that’s in Kansas) for the elementary and $2.65 for middle/high school.

Not only are school lunches expensive, they’re usually pretty gross.
