After yesterday’s scoop on the poop house I figured Offbeat could use some sweetening up. Thus the beautiful Honey House.
I love earthbag homes because one, they’re sweet to the planet and two they always seem so smooth. I love the non-edgy qualities of many of the earthbag shelters I’ve seen.
This earthbag; the Honey House was constructed in just 19 days and cost a whopping $1,500 (hold me back). Included in that ‘high cost’ was, “Professional backhoe service to dig the foundation, all reject soil delivered, bags, barbed wire, window and door forms, manufactured windows and custom-made door.”
The builders experimented with a living roof for a while:

The people responsible for this beautiful house are Ok Ok Ok Productions. Their friends don’t call them “ok” they probably use their real names: Kaki Hunter and Donald Kiffmeyer.
Their site is an amazing mecca of earthbag information. There are more projects to see, tips to explore, and guides to building. Especially fun is their page of Smart-Ass Answers regarding earthbags.
Oh, they also have a sweet book; Earthbag Building : The Tools, Tricks, and Techniques that’s pretty much making me drool. Not sure when I missed this book but it’s not new and I must have it. I’m adding it to my list for the next book buying frenzy I go on.

I love these earthy houses, they look so cozy and non-pretentious! Can’t you see a whole village full of them? People growing their own food and living in harmony with the earth! How did things get so complicated??? Better yet imagine if it went down a few stories into the earth!! Very nice.

Now that would make the most interesting little garden shed for the backyard… until I noticed later photo. I didn’t realize that they could be that big. I love the little office. It’s so… NEAT!
o.k..THAT one I would like..My 15 year old, who well call Huck, or Thoreau, is wanting either a yurt or a teepee.
