The most eco-friendly generation

A recent survey of young adults in Britain reveals which generation is the most and which generation is the least eco-friendly.  The results, according to GreenBiz were a little surprising. 18-24 years old individuals were not only the most eco-savvy but also the least eco-friendly. Sounds nuts right? However in the survey young adults aged 18-24 turned out to have the most green awareness of any one age group but also managed to waste more energy or water than any other age group.

eco-friendly young adults

According to the results, 72% of 18-24 year old young adults (gen Y folks) surveyed admitted to wasting water on a regular basis with acts like leaving the water running while brushing their teeth or leaving the water on for minutes before hopping into the shower. What’s odd about these results is that college campuses are more and more turning up in green reports as places full of eco-friendly individuals – and campuses are full of this age group.

Of course not all surveys turn up the same results. Last year researchers at ICOM Information and Communications L.P., a Toronto-based firm that studies the spending habits of consumers, found that older Americans (over 50) are the folks most likely to purchase “green” products.

Really, it doesn’t matter who is the greenest age group. What matters most is that a larger number of all people in all age groups try to live green when they can.

In my experience kids under 12 and adults over 25 seem to be the most eco-aware. I didn’t do a study or anything that’s just what I see. In your world which age group seems the most eco-friendly?
