Every Monday night for the rest of the summer my son and some of his friends are taking a class on building robots with Legos. How cool is that? They are doing it through a company called Davinci’s Kids.
Basically each week they are presented with a challenge. They build a working Lego robot using the LEGO Mindstorms NXT robotics kit and then program the robot to perform certain tasks.
Last night was week #2 of the course and their mission as part of Alien Encounter was to design a plow for their robot that would push the most rocks across the finish line. Here is a video of my son’s last robot performing the task. One of the wheels got stuck and it ended up making the plow turn.
I am going to try to make a short video of each of their projects as the class goes along.

I hope there’s a class like that for my son when he’s older! If not, we may have to form a LEGO Mindstorms club. :)
Lucy – apparently they had done a few other runs already before I got there and his previous runs were successful. I think it is just as cool whether it works perfectly or not – because if it does not, there is big learning involved.
What a shame it didn’t finish … and what a great project/series of projects! I’d say that was ‘way cool’.
