Wake Up Call: Teens Texting While Driving

Every day a person gets into a car and drives to work, to the store, a school, to their house, etc. Every day someone else gets in a car to do

the exact same thing, only they decide to get on the phone or text a friend. Imagine now that this other person is your son or daughter, or even yourself and they are distracted just for a brief second. But that second caused them to slowly go in the wrong direction on the road and now they are looking right up at oncoming traffic. It’s too late to stop, turn, back up, they are going head on with a car at 45mph. While none of us would like this scenario it happens and it is happening a lot more these days.

To give you a little insight of what it might look like the British have released a youtube video of “Texting While Driving,” I will warn you before clicking this link it is extremely graphic but also very realistic.

With the rise of technology and every person carrying a cell phone on them, including teens the stats are going up. In 2002 there were over 330,000 accidents by cell phones, 2,600 died. In 2007, there were 1000 accidents caused involving teens caused by cell phones. Half of all people driving between the age of 18-24 will be texting while driving. Most of these statics were writting before 2009, I can only think of how high these numbers have went up since 2007. Can you? What are your thoughts? Can we actually prevent so many accdients/deaths due to cell phone calls or texting? Once again, this isn’t just a teen thing. If you visited the video “Texting While Driving” what are your thoughts?

Man that was a depressing video :(

I heard recently that driving while texting is more dangerous than driving drunk.
