Works For Me Wednesday: Organizing Toys

Long gone are my days of having a clean home.  All is takes is one child walking through the house and there will be scattered toys, dirt and leaves, or crumbs.  We love them all though and must find a way to make life a bit more organized.

One of our main problem with toys was finding a place for all the little toys.  For a while we tried baskets.  I had a basket of cars, a basket of people, a basket of this and that.  The baskets were driving me up the wall.  I guess it would be fine if you had some nice shelving to put them on.

We finally found something that works for us.

I had one of the big plastic dressers in the kids’ closet.  It was storing their papers, extra clothes, and so forth.  I finally decided to put it to use for the little toys.

As you can see, we have plenty of little toys.  ;)   I still have a few baskets for cars, cassette tapes, and like items.  The kids don’t seem to care where the toys go though, so long as they can get their room cleaned fast.  So this system is working pretty well for us.

What kind of toy organization do you have?

I have one of those shelves that holds 6 small buckets that we use for small toys. My daughter has a tiny closet, so on the shelf at the top I placed 2 crates side by side, now I store stuff in the crates and on top of the crates. I also bought 2 underbed boxes at Walmart to store ponies and dress ups. I had to get creative since my daughter’s room size was almost cut in half.

Great idea! I had my husband build a shelf that goes along one of the walls in our playroom so I could stack totes full of toys. Lately though I’ve been going through them when the kids aren’t looking and placing them in the donation pile.
