Sometimes, a light bulb comes on and a very clever little idea pops into your head with a satisfying ‘aha’.
Last night, I had one of those ‘aha’ moments….
I am knitting leggings for my daughter’s baby. I am using a pattern from a wonderful vintage book that I bought at a garage sale this summer:

The book is a treasure, so I want to take care of it. I’ve been lugging the book around with me, but, I’m not so sure that that’s good for the book. As I was about to pop the book into my knitting bag, I had a really great idea….

Instead of carrying the book around, I thought:
Why not punch out some tags, and write the pattern notes on them?

So, I got out a punch that makes hangtags, and some pieces of file folder that were left over from another project. I punched out a stack of the little tags, then punched a hole in top of them. I wrote out sections of the pattern on the tags, numbered them, tied them together and then used a lark’s head knot to attach them to the knitting.
Now, my knitting bag is soooo much lighter, the book isn’t getting battered around, and my pattern notes are all sturdy, handy and tied to the project. Fantastic!
It works beautifully! Whee…. such a simple little trick, but so neat!

Hi there
It’s a punch that cuts out hang tag shapes. I bought it at my local craft store, if your local craft store doesn’t carry them, you can probably find one at an online scrapbooking website. Or, for that matter, you could just cut out little tags freehand.
Hello! I’d just like to ask what is this awesome punch tag thing and where can I get one!
