Portable Jewelry Display Case

And here we have the regal Skimpy, the cat, modeling this portable jewelry display case. Of course, he just had to jump on the table when I took this picture!

I haven’t hit the streets in awhile to sell my hand-crafted jewelry, but one of the issues I found to be a problem when I did this on a regular basis was how to transport and display my jewelry when trying to sell to gallery and shop owners. I’ve tried clear plastic bags in cosmetic cases, which were a hassle to take out individual pieces and put back in when finished. I’ve tried tackle boxes with jewelry layered between bubble wrap, better: the tackle box is unobtrusive so you don’t have to worry so much about getting robbed, but still, unprofessional looking. Finally, a friend of mine bought me this cool case. I already had the trays from when I did art shows, so I was in business.

The trays stack one on top of the other, and each has a velvet pad inside. The pads also work well as work surfaces for seed beading and wire work. Once on the trays and inside the case, jewelry will slide around a little, but you can use a few pins to keep stuff in place. Just don’t use too many or you may as well use plastic bags, again, the issue of time here. It can be a pain to unpin each piece, and your buyer will (you hope) want to handle the merchandise.

Lots of jewelry supply vendors have these cases and other variations of the one her that my cat is modeling, but I know for sure that I’ve seen this exact case at a company called Jewelry Suppy.com. Rio Grande also carries these.

Thank you for the expert advice on this, Curt! I like being able to pin my necklaces in place when I’m traveling, but that means looking for a case or other system with a soft enough lining.

    Hi there,
I have been in the Jewellery trade for over 30 years. I have used similar cases and usually hold around 17 trays in each case. You have to be careful though, as the necklaces tend to get tangled if you dont take care when moving! I have found these cases very helpful, as they fit perfect in my car!

Hi Lynda, this is Cyndi, the new editor of this blog. Unlike Tammy, I haven’t used this exact case/tray system, but I’ve seen them advertised. The catalogs will usually tell you how many trays will fit inside each case. I agree with you that you don’t want to stuff the case full.

    I loved your website!
I am just startimg out selling to the Mart. I wanted to find out the best way to look perfesional with my presiontation.
Finding your site (through google-key words jewlery mobile display) was soooo great. You saved me lots of trial and error. i
I just had one more question, how many trays does your case include? They have 12 or 18 tray holders. I was conserned that 18 may make the case unstable although, the more you can store the better.
Please, respond to my email with any other tips you may have. I have found your cander completly selfless. thank you!
